Christianity

Christianity may well be the greatest horror that happened to humanity till date. The number of people tortured, or killed in the name of Christ surpasses the combined crimes committed by Muslims, Jews, and Hindus.

When we talk about religions. it is most important to keep clear the distinction between the individuals and their beliefs. Great majority of humans have lost their own sense of individuality and identify themselves with a group, however it is only in the individual that divine qualities are found. Having lost their individuality and hence their divinity, humans look for gods in heaven. Thus the followers are behaving like sheep, not like humans. Indeed Jesus refers to himself as "shepherd" and to his followers as "sheep". It is of paramount importance for us humans to re-gain the consciousness of our divineness. To re-own our god-status, and take full responsibility for our creative powers. The tragic state of our planet; the wars, hunger and destruction of the environment, is the result of denying our creative power and responsibility and projecting it on the gods. Gods are forced on us in our childhood and are later supported by the religious institutions. Behind every "god" there is a vested interest: a church, a pope, an iman, a priest, or some other religious establishment.

Believers are often aware of the nonsensical nature of beliefs of the others, unfortunately they are totally blind to the absurdity of their own beliefs.

When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind. --J. Krishnamurti, Freedom from the Known, pp.51-52
